ADA Website Risk Checklist

Identify your site's most critical accessibility vulnerabilities in under 10 minutes — no technical expertise required.

What's on the Checklist

This checklist covers the 15 most common ADA website vulnerabilities that plaintiff attorneys look for — the functional failures that actually trigger lawsuits, not just code-level details.

  • Contact Form Accessibility — Can users with disabilities complete your primary contact form using only a keyboard?
  • Appointment Booking — Is your scheduling system operable without a mouse? Can error messages be heard by a screen reader?
  • Image Alt Text — Do all meaningful images have descriptive alt text? Are decorative images marked correctly?
  • Keyboard Navigation — Can every interactive element on your site be reached and activated with Tab and Enter keys?
  • Color Contrast — Does your body text meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio required by WCAG 2.1 AA?
  • Form Labels — Does every form field have a visible, programmatic label? Are required fields identified without relying on color alone?
  • PDF Accessibility — Are your downloadable PDFs tagged and readable by screen readers?
  • Heading Structure — Does your page use a logical heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3) that screen readers can navigate?
  • Video Captions — Do all videos on your site have accurate, synchronized captions?
  • Mobile Zoom — Does your site allow pinch-to-zoom? (user-scalable=no is a WCAG violation)
  • Focus Indicators — Are keyboard focus outlines visible on every interactive element? Is outline:none used anywhere?
  • Error Messages — When a form field has an error, is the message specific about what's wrong and how to fix it?
  • Link Descriptions — Do all links describe their destination? ("Click here" and "Read more" alone fail WCAG 2.4.4)
  • Page Titles — Does every page have a unique, descriptive title that reflects the page's purpose?
  • Accessibility Statement — Does your site have a published WCAG conformance statement? (Courts look for this.)

This Checklist Identifies Risk — It Doesn't Document Defense

Completing this checklist helps you understand your exposure. It does not produce the legally defensible documentation you need if you receive a demand letter. That requires a professional audit with attorney review. Learn about the ADA Defense Audit →
